Amen Corner: The Revival!…The Road to Broadway

TODAY 2/24/14 WAS A HUGE DAY FOR “AMEN CORNER: THE REVIVAL!” AMEN! IS NOT ‘JUST’ A MUSICAL…IT IS A MOVEMENT!

It's not 'just' a Musical...It's a Movement!

It’s not ‘just’ a Musical…It’s a Movement!

That little phrase was deposited in my spirit a few weeks ago, and it has been startling with what speed things began to align almost as soon as I spoke those words OUT LOUD. The NATIONAL dialogue has begun…and so has pre-production. And my heart is racing because this is what we artists live for. We do all this work to afford us an opportunity to create our art…that’s always the goal.

Sometimes that art comes draped in a larger mission — like now. The funny thing is that I keep thinking that I KNOW where GOD is taking this project. Truth is…I don’t. I was allowed to see the beginning — the successful mounting of this production in California, and the end — Broadway. Connecting the dots from point A to point B has proven to be the ride of my life. The scope of this project keeps expanding…layer on top of layer. I soon understood why some folks just quit on a dream, or a vision. It’s so very hard and often exceedingly lonely. You sacrifice a lot in terms of things that all of us want in the way of relationships and creature comforts. But, as I’ve learned the hard way, I paid a higher price when I tried to walk away…abort the project…if you will. The only thing I succeeded in doing was making a lot of other folks miserable. This musical…this movement is something that absolutely has to happened, and for whatever reason, I’m the lucky girl that gets to bring it. I imagine, as my friends so often remind me, He wouldn’t have trusted me with it if I didn’t have what it takes — somewhere deep inside me — to make it happen.

I’m NOT saying I was…but if I had been a brat…before, I can now say with some authority that I have paid mine and a couple of other folk’s dues

HJ! I’m so glad you are finally saying this!!! And even more overjoyed that you did not quit. Muhammad Ali was once knocked to the mat in a prize fight…when a reporter asked him how he got up, continued the battle and won he said: When I looked around and noticed where I was, I told myself that the canvas is no place for a champion!!! Quitting is no place for a champion. I am EXCEEDINGLY proud of you! Keep punching! Payge

Thank you so much Payge. You are, and have always been, a light in the darkness. Thank you for seeing and sharing the vision.
